Frequently Asked Questions
Paper Shredders
Intimus paper shredders can also shred credit cards, staples, paper clips, and CDs/DVDs. Check your shredder’s manual for specific capabilities.
The sheet capacity varies by model. Most Intimus shredders can shred between 5 to 50 sheets at once. Refer to your specific model’s specifications for details.
Intimus shredders offer safety features like auto shut-off, safety sensors, and the Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) system, which detects paper volume and prevents overloads and jams. These features ensure safe and efficient operation.
Auto-feed shredders save time and effort by automatically shredding large stacks of paper. They increase productivity, reduce manual feeding, and ensure continuous, hands-free operation.
Intimus shredders, made in Germany, are renowned for their precision engineering, high-quality materials, and rigorous manufacturing standards, offering superior durability and performance. In contrast, Chinese-made shredders may be more affordable but often have variability in quality and durability. German models, like Intimus, typically provide a longer lifespan and more reliable operation.
A P-7 level shredder produces shreds that are 1mm or less in width. Staples and paper clips, which are often wider than 1mm and do not compress like paper, can easily jam the cutting head. The narrow spacing between blades is designed to achieve the fine shred width, as paper compresses during cutting and expands afterward. Therefore, it's crucial to ensure that staples, paper clips, and other non-paper materials do not enter the shredder to avoid jams.
The security level you need depends on the sensitivity of the documents you're shredding. For general documents, P-3 or P-4 is sufficient. For confidential documents, P-5 or higher is recommended. Always choose a shredder that meets your specific security requirements.
There are various types of paper with different densities and qualities. Our ratings are based on two common European paper standards: 70 g/m² and 80 g/m². In the US, 20 lb. paper is typically 74 g/m². The type of fibers in the paper can also impact sheet capacity; for instance, recycled paper, with its shorter fibers, is easier to shred than new paper. Adequate power supply is also crucial. Some of our larger equipment should be on a dedicated 20-amp circuit or require 3-phase power. Insufficient power can result in reduced sheet capacity.
To determine the right size of industrial shredder, consider the volume of documents you need to shred, the security level required, and the types of materials you'll be shredding. Intimus industrial shredders can process a variety of materials, including paper, paper clips, staples, credit cards, CDs & DVDs, floppy disks, and folders. They are designed to handle large volumes and diverse types of materials efficiently.
Three-phase power delivers three alternating currents, each separated by one-third of a full cycle. This design ensures a constant and balanced power supply, which is crucial for the efficiency and reliability of heavy-duty equipment. The consistent power flow allows three-phase motors to operate more efficiently, drawing less current compared to single-phase motors. This results in reduced energy consumption and greater reliability, making three-phase power ideal for high-volume or production applications where consistent performance is essential.
Specialty Shredders
A multimedia shredder is a specialized machine designed to destroy various types of media beyond just paper. It can shred CDs, DVDs, credit cards, floppy disks, and other electronic media, ensuring secure disposal of sensitive information stored on different formats.
An Intimus multimedia shredder is a specialized machine designed to destroy various types of media, including SSD drives, CDs & DVDs, credit cards, floppy disks, VHS tapes, and HDD drives. It ensures the secure disposal of sensitive information stored on different formats, providing comprehensive data protection.
A hard drive degausser works by generating a powerful magnetic field that disrupts the magnetic domains on the drive's platters, effectively erasing all stored data. This process destroys the data and renders the drive unusable. Degaussers are particularly effective for securely erasing data from hard drives, tapes, and other magnetic media.
The cost for Intimus shredders varies widely, ranging from $4,000 to $22,000, depending on the model and features.
Cardboard shredders reduce waste, promote recycling, and save costs by converting cardboard into reusable packing material. They also minimize storage space and simplify disposal processes.
Pharmacy shredders, like those from Intimus, ensure compliance with HIPAA by securely destroying sensitive patient information, prescription labels, and confidential documents. This prevents unauthorized access to protected health information (PHI), thereby maintaining patient privacy and meeting regulatory requirements
Yes, Intimus pharmacy shredders can handle prescription bottles, securely destroying them along with other materials.
Maintenance & Services
our shredder may not be starting due to several common issues. Firstly, ensure that it is properly plugged in and switched on. Check that the shredder bin is securely closed, as many models will not operate if the bin is ajar. Overheating can also cause the shredder to stop; in this case, allow it to cool down before attempting to use it again. Additionally, make sure the paper is correctly aligned in the feed slot to avoid any alignment issues. Finally, inspect the shredder for any blockages or jams that might be obstructing its operation.
Your shredder may have stopped working due to a jam, overheating, or power supply issues. Check for paper jams, allow the shredder to cool down, and ensure it is properly plugged in and receiving power. If the problem persists, consult the user manual or contact customer support
Your shredder may overheat if it has been used continuously for an extended period without breaks. Blocked cooling vents can also prevent proper airflow, leading to overheating. Operating the shredder beyond its intended sheet capacity can strain the motor and generate excess heat. Additionally, a lack of regular maintenance or oiling can increase friction, contributing to overheating.
The Intimus 78819 Vacuum Kit is designed to capture dust and debris generated during shredding with the Intimus PacMaster Shredder. It keeps the shredding area clean, improves air quality by reducing airborne particles, and helps create a healthier and more comfortable work environment while ensuring secure shredding of confidential documents.
